At Dair House Pre-Prep, we are dedicated to fostering a warm, caring environment for your child's early education. Our Pre-Prep program caters to children in Reception through Year 2, ensuring a seamless and supportive transition as they grow and learn.
Reception Year
Our Reception class continues the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, providing a rich and engaging learning experience. In addition to the core EYFS areas, Reception children receive specialist instruction in French, Games and PE, Music and Forest School.
If you are new to the school we provide a smooth transition from Nursery to Reception, through special taster days and Meet the Teacher afternoons. This ensures that your child becomes familiar with the Reception environment and routines, easing their transition and fostering a sense of continuity and comfort as they continue in their educational journey.
Years 1 & 2
For children aged 5 to 7 years, Dair House takes pride in its small class sizes throughout Key Stage 1. Our approach ensures that each child receives individual care and attention from their class teacher who will teach the core subjects of English and Maths alongside Topic and Art and Design and Technology.
Subjects such as Science, Music, French, RE, Games/PE, PSHEE and Computing are taught by specialists. This provides a broad and balanced curriculum, essential for each child's continued development. The subjects taught in Years 1 and 2 include:

Reporting
Parents of children in both Years 1 and 2 receive written reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms. The Autumn report focuses on English, Mathematics and the class teacher's overall comments. In the Summer term, we report on progress made and set targets for all subjects taught.
Homework
Homework is designed to reinforce classroom learning and develop independent study habits. Year 1 children take home reading and spelling homework daily and at weekends. Year 2 children also have daily reading and spelling homework, with additional consolidation work for English and Mathematics set on weekends.
Educational Visits
Children in Years 1 and 2 regularly participate in educational visits, with the aim of planning one topic-based educational visit per term for each class. These outings enrich our teaching and provide real-world learning experiences, sparking curiosity and wonder in our young learners.
We look forward to meeting you and showing you what the Pre-prep has to offer.
