Engaging Every Child at Dair House School
At Dair House School, we are dedicated to engaging all children, regardless of their abilities, to help them make significant progress and become lifelong learners. Our approach ensures that the most able students are stretched, while those who are less confident receive the support they need to fulfill their individual academic potential. We achieve this by planning and differentiating our teaching to inspire each child to reach their highest level of personal achievement.
Comprehensive Learning Support
Our Learning Support Department is a vital part of Dair House School, providing additional assistance to any children who require it. Our Learning Support Specialists work in tandem with class and subject teachers and maintain close communication with parents to ensure the best possible provision and outcomes. We also liaise with external agencies when necessary and specifically identify and cater to the needs of more able children.
Tailored Teaching for Individual Needs
High-quality, differentiated teaching is our first response to meeting all pupils’ needs. Learning Support offers a variety of provisions across the school, tailored to individual requirements. This may include in-class support, small group work, or individual intervention, depending on each child’s needs.
Early Identification and Ongoing Support
At Dair House, we closely monitor all pupils to identify any additional support they might need as early as possible. Our aim is to implement effective learning strategies or support mechanisms promptly. These challenges can be academic, physical, social, or emotional, and our department strives to ensure that all our pupils feel happy, confident, and inspired. Our Learning Support Coordinator collaborates with teachers, children, and parents to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for specific areas such as handwriting, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and ASD. We also support EAL (English as an Additional Language) pupils and work closely with local authorities and families to assist children with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans).
Parental Involvement and Communication
We believe that communication is crucial for successful learning support. Parents are actively involved in their children's learning both at home and at school. Regular reviews of IEPs are conducted to ensure that all parties are working together effectively.
More Able
We also ensure that those children who are 'More able' are appropriately challenged, while keeping them within their peer groups and normal classes. Our 'More Able' programme is inclusive, with pupils being challenged through differentiated and accelerated work within lessons. We also run a More Able Extra-Curricular Programme which includes STEM, Creative Arts and Philosophy, Maths, Sport, Art and Music.
Commitment to Every Child's Success
At Dair House School, our commitment is to ensure that every child, regardless of their ability, receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed. Through comprehensive support and close collaboration with parents and external agencies, we strive to create an environment where all our pupils can thrive and achieve their full potential.
