At Dair House Prep, we are dedicated to providing a warm, nurturing, and caring environment for children aged 7 to 11 years. Our Prep Department, covering Years 3 to 6, builds on the foundations laid in Key Stage 1, continuing our commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum while preparing students for the world at large.
Years 3 – 6
Children in Key Stage 2 follow the same comprehensive curriculum as those in Key Stage 1. From Year 3 onwards, each child has their own laptop, enhancing their learning experience and fostering digital literacy.
Our curriculum includes:
English
Mathematics
Topic (History and Geography)
ESR (Education for Social Responsibility)
Science
French
PE/Games
Music
RE
Art/Design and Technology
PSHEE
Computing
English, Maths, Topic and ESR are taught by the class teacher with specialist teachers providing lessons in all other subjects. Our passionate specialist teachers bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their subjects, inspiring our students and promoting a love for learning. We emphasise independence, responsibility, creativity, and critical thinking, ensuring our students are well-prepared for their future educational endeavours and life beyond school.
Reporting
Parents in Key Stage 2 receive detailed written reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms. The Autumn report focuses on English, Mathematics, Science, and general comments from the class teacher. In the Summer term, we provide comprehensive feedback on progress made across all subjects and set targets for future development.
Homework
Homework is an integral part of our Prep curriculum. From Year 3 to Year 6, children receive daily homework in reading, spelling, and times tables. Additionally, we introduce specific homework tasks and extended project work, which may include weekend assignments, to further develop their independent learning skills.
Educational Visits
Educational visits are a key component of our teaching approach. Each class participates in one educational visit per term, enriching their classroom learning with real-world experiences.
In addition to these day trips, Year 4 students enjoy a two-night residential stay at a nearby outdoor education centre. Year 5 and 6 students embark on more extensive residential trips, with visits to France and the Cotswolds, offering invaluable cultural and personal development opportunities.
11+ and Entrance Exams
We take pride in thoroughly preparing our Year 6 students for the next stage of their educational journey. Many of our students take the Buckinghamshire and Slough 11+ exams. We ensure pupils are well-prepared to sit Common Entrance, ISEB and other entrance exams for senior independent schools. We maintain a close open-door policy with parents to facilitate successful transitions to the schools of their choice. The majority of our pupils gain entrance to their preferred schools, a testament to the quality of education and preparation they receive at Dair House.
At Dair House, we are committed to nurturing each child's potential, fostering a love of learning, and preparing them for success in school and beyond. We look forward to supporting your child as they grow, learn, and embark on their journey to becoming confident, responsible, and compassionate well rounded young people.
