At Dair House School, we place great importance on developing a sense of responsibility among our pupils. We believe that by taking on responsibilities, children learn valuable life skills, cultivate leadership qualities, and embody our core values of being courageous, committed, and caring.
Class Responsibilities
Each class at Dair House is encouraged to take on various responsibilities tailored to their age and capabilities. From Reception onwards, pupils are given opportunities to contribute to their classroom and school community, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their environment.
Year 6 Leadership Roles
In Year 6, we appoint students to several whole-school responsibilities, providing them with the opportunity to lead by example and influence the younger pupils positively. These roles include:
· Head of School
· Prefects
· House Captains
· Sports Captains
· Eco Ambassador
· Music Ambassador
These positions allow our Year 6 pupils to develop leadership skills, enhance their sense of responsibility, and contribute significantly to the school community.
School Council
Children from Year 1 to Year 6 are elected by their peers to serve on the School Council. This body meets regularly to discuss school-wide initiatives and represent the student voice in decision-making processes. Being a part of the School Council helps students understand the importance of civic engagement, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving.
Eco Committee
Our active Eco Committee, comprising students from various year groups, plays a crucial role in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability within the school. Their efforts have been recognised with the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag award, a testament to their dedication and impact. The committee works on projects that encourage sustainable practices, reduce waste, and educate the school community about environmental stewardship.
Pupil Voice
We believe in the power of Pupil Voice and provide our pupils with regular opportunities to make suggestions through our 'Our Voice Matters' box and surveys. This initiative helps pupils be actively engaged in their education, giving them the chance to voice their opinions, gain confidence to speak up, debate, value the opinions of others, and work collaboratively with staff and peers. It is essential that our pupils feel listened to and respected as an integral part of the Dair House community.
Embodying Our Core Values
All of these responsibilities are designed to develop our students’ abilities to be courageous, committed, and caring. By stepping into these roles, students learn to take initiative, work collaboratively, and show compassion towards others. They gain confidence in their abilities and a deeper understanding of their impact on the world around them.
At Dair House School, we are proud of the ways in which our pupils rise to the challenge of their responsibilities, growing into capable and conscientious individuals who are well-prepared for their future endeavours.
