Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) Project

Week one:

We're delighted to share details of an exciting investment in our school sport facilities.

Work has begun on the refurbishment and extension of our Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), which will provide pupils with an enhanced, modern sporting space designed to support a wide range of activities. I have attached plans to show the new facility.

The project includes:

  • Construction of a new, extended sand-dressed multi-use games area to provide a playing area of 34.00 x 33.50m
  • Removal of the existing worn polymeric surface, fencing, edgings and paving surrounds
  • Installation of a new 15mm in-situ shock pad made from recycled car tyres
  • A new 3m high 8/6/8 weldmesh perimeter fence with a 1.2m rebound panel for rebound sports (RAL 6005 Moss Green)
  • Timber kickboards around the perimeter to support hockey use
  • A high-performance Lano S-Tec Integration experience surface (12mm pile), tested to FH National, Gen 2 Multisport, EN15330 Tennis, AENA Netball and Sport England standards
  • Two netball courts (yellow lines) and two tennis courts (white lines)
  • A new dedicated macadam spectator area with a new macadam link path from the school
  • A dedicated goal storage area

This significant upgrade will create a larger, safer and more versatile playing environment for our pupils, supporting hockey, netball, tennis and a range of multi-sport activities.

The project is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete and will be ready to use in the first week of May. The contractor will be self-contained in the far end of the car park adjacent to the tennis court area and will arrive before morning drop off and depart before afternoon pick up thereby keeping disruption to a minimum. We appreciate your understanding during this period of improvement and look forward to unveiling a fantastic new facility that will benefit pupils for many years to come.

Thank you for your continued support as we invest in the future of sport at our school.

Week two:

Progress is moving fast on our Multi-Use Games Area! We've officially wrapped up the first major phase of the transformation, and while the site looks a bit "dusty" right now, the foundation for something great is being laid.

Here is the latest from the ground:

Done & Dusted: Surface Removal

The team has successfully stripped back the old surface layer. Getting that top material off is often the trickiest part of the demolition phase, but it was completed right on schedule.

What's Happening Now: The Big Clear-Out

Currently, we are in the "transition" phase. You'll see some piles of rubble on-site don't worry, they aren't permanent features! We are awaiting the heavy machinery to clear the remaining debris, leaving us with a clean slate for the structural work.

Looking Ahead: Securing the Perimeter

Once the site is cleared, the focus shifts to the court perimeters.

We're one step closer to a world-class playing surface! Stay tuned for next week's update as the new shape of the MUGA finally starts to emerge.

Week 3:

Our new Multi-Use Game Area (MUGA) is rapidly taking shape! We've had a busy week on-site, and the transformation is becoming more impressive by the day.

What's Happening This Week?

The construction team is focusing on three critical milestones to get the surface ready for play:

Foundation Work: Completing the "stoning" of the entire area to ensure a level, solid base.

Border Precision: Carefully cleaning up and defining the boundary edges.

The Big Finish: Beginning the tarmac laying - the moment it starts looking like a real pitch!

Looking Ahead to Summer

The finish line is in sight, and we are already dreaming of sun-drenched match day. We can't wait to see our students and the community utailising this premier facility.
